The Central Coast region has some of the worst local roads in NSW and much of the road infrastructure is deteriorating due to record-levels of rainfall, highlighting the decade of neglect.

Despite these factors, the NSW Liberal Government and Member for Terrigal have provided no region-specific support to address the backlog of local road repairs, avoiding their responsibilities.

Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP says that the Parliamentary Secretary and State Member for Terrigal, Adam Crouch MP, is missing in action while Central Coast residents are left dodging potholes.

“In the first federal budget delivered by the Albanese Labor Government, we have fulfilled an election commitment and provided $40 million dollars to repair some of the Coast’s worst local roads. This federal funding will ensure Central Coast Council can undertake urgent resurfacing and re-sealing works on local roads that have been neglected for too long”. Dr Reid said.

“We have learned yesterday that the NSW Liberal Government and Member for Terrigal have announced the opening of the next round of the Fixing Local Roads Pothole Repair fund, yet this fund is for repairs across the whole of NSW, and there’s no guarantee that the Central Coast will receive any of the $50 million dollars”. Said Dr Reid.

“The Coast is crying out for all levels of government to chip-in and address the deteriorating conditions of local roads. The Federal Government has come to the table, now we need the State Government to do the same”. Dr Reid said.

“Residents contact my office frequently needing assistance with road maintenance and often tell me that there is a new saying across the Central Coast, ‘that we used to drive on the left, but now we drive on what’s left’”. Dr Reid said.

“I’m calling on the State Liberal Government and Parliamentary Secretary, Adam Crouch MP, to provide the Central Coast with the attention it deserves, like the federal government has, and secure funding to repair our local roads”. Said Dr Reid.

Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch MP says that this is another failure by the NSW Liberal Government.

“This is a pittance and not even a guarantee, it is disappointing that the Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast is calling this a victory. Yet again the NSW Liberal Government has forgotten about the Central Coast”. Said Ms Tesch.
