The Albanese Labor Government has handed down its first federal budget since coming to power in May 2022.
Treasurer Dr Jim Chalmers delivered his first budget speech in the House of Representatives on Tuesday night and outlined key measures that will reduce cost-of-living pressures and build a better future for Australians.
Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP says that the Albanese Labor Government is delivering on its key election commitments.
“The first federal budget by the Albanese Labor Government has delivered on our key election commitments during the election. The government has funded cheaper childcare for 1.26 million families, cut the cost of medicines on the PBS, funded additional university and fee-free TAFE places, delivered $9.6 billion in nation-building infrastructure, including on the Central Coast, and added six more weeks to paid parental leave”. Dr Reid said.
“After almost a decade of cuts, broken promises, rorts, and a trillion dollars of debt left behind by the former Liberal Government, the Albanese Labor Government has delivered an economically measured and responsible budget”. Dr Reid said.
“The announcements in the budget that have been unveiled are targeted and sensible, ensuring that the nation, and the Central Coast, are able to confront the challenges and opportunities of the future”. Said Dr Reid.
Dr Reid says that the Central Coast has secured all its local commitments that were made by Labor during the 2022 Federal Election.
“Every one of the commitments that were made by my campaign have been funded in the Albanese Labor Government’s first federal budget. These commitments include a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, upgrades to sporting facilities across the electorate, telecommunication improvements, and $40 million for upgrades to local Central Coast roads”. Dr Reid said.
