The Avoca Rugby Union Club – The Sharks – have received $5000 from the Federal Labor Government’s 2023-24 Volunteer Grants.

The Avoca Sharks have used the funding to organise first aid training for its volunteers and to purchase new technology.

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP:

“Our volunteers are the backbone of our sporting organisations, and it is vitally important that as a government we support them.

“The Federal Labor Government’s 2023-24 Volunteer Grants are supporting a range of community organisations across the Central Coast, including sports clubs like the Avoca Sharks.

“I congratulate the Avoca Sharks on this support and look forward to continuing to work with the club to strengthen its volunteer capacity”, Dr Reid said.

Quotes attributable to Avoca Rugby Union Club President, Brendan Slape:

“Without volunteers, community-based clubs like Avoca Beach Rugby simply could not exist - we are so grateful to be able to access grants and funding such as this, which greatly assist in providing a safe, secure, and sustainable environment for all our participants.

“We have used this funding to provide first aid training and to invest in technology to support our volunteers.

“This funding has ensured that every one of our teams, no matter what age group has qualified volunteer first aiders in attendance at each game.

“Technology in the form of automated video is being used to reduce the burden on our volunteer coaching and playing staff and has already provided tangible benefits to the club in the short time we have used it.

“Thank you, Dr Reid for your continued support of the community”, Said Mr Slape.

The Australian Government’s Volunteer Grants support the work of local community organisations by enabling the inclusion of vulnerable people and promoting awareness to increase participation in volunteering.

Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 were available to assist eligible not-for-profit community organisations support the efforts of their volunteers.
