The Albanese Labor Government’s $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund is currently stalled by The Greens political party and the Liberal Party.

Much of Australia, including here on the Central Coast, are in the grips of a housing affordability crisis.

The proposed housing fund, if passed, will allow the Federal Government to build 30,000 new social and affordable houses.

Housing for vulnerable Australians and key essential workers, like teachers, nurses, and police.

Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP, criticised The Greens political party for holding up progress on housing policy in a speech delivered in the House of Representatives.

“The Albanese Labor Government was elected with a mandate to build more social and affordable houses”, Dr Reid said.

“By increasing the supply of housing, it ensures housing for vulnerable people, like women aged 55 and over, who are one of the fastest growing homelessness demographics”.

“Unfortunately, The Greens political party have teamed up with the Liberal Party and are blocking the Housing Australia Future Fund from being passed”, Dr Reid said.

“Instead of any policy progress to address the housing crisis, the Greens political party are playing politics with the lives of Australians”.

“We are seeing the true identity of The Greens political party, who are addicted to making headlines rather than delivering progressive policy”, Dr Reid said.

“In regions like ours, this policy cannot come sooner. There are 182 priority-assessed families on the waitlist for housing in our region. That is 182 Australian families without the protection, security, and wellbeing that housing provides”.

“There are currently 13,658 people receiving Commonwealth Rent Assistance, who are in stress on the Central Coast. We need the Housing Australia Future Fund to pass so the federal government can get started building more houses across Australia”, Dr Reid said.
