Residents of Headlam Parade in Springfield are demanding action from Central Coast Council to address flooding issues occurring in the street after weather events.

Residents are experiencing damage to their properties because the street does not have kerb, guttering, and drainage.

And due to the topography of the street, stormwater is flowing into properties and causing water damage.

Insurance companies are refusing to cover damage which is leaving many in the area feeling like they are being abandoned.

Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP, visited Headlam Parade to see firsthand the issue.

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP

“Headlam Parade residents are feeling absolutely let down by Central Coast Council and their insurance companies.

“I have met with residents living along Headlam Parade to listen, to understand, and to be a strong voice for these residents.

“Residents are calling on Central Coast Council to provide kerb, guttering, footpaths, and drainage, to mitigate stormwater entering their properties.

“I have written to Administrator Rik Hart to inform him of these set of circumstances and to amplify the calls for kerb, guttering, footpaths, and drainage for Headlam Parade in Springfield.

“I will continue to advocate on behalf of our community until a favourable outcome is reached”, Dr Reid said.

Quotes attributable to Headlam Parade resident, Mr Raymond Setchell:

“Without kerb and guttering along Headlam Parade, there are no protections for our properties, and us as the homeowners, could be at risk of having any insurance claim for water damage rejected.

“Not to mention, without having a footpath down the street, residents could be at risk of being injured.

“This should also be addressed noting that the Council specifies that all new urban streets are to have kerb and guttering installed that are compliant with Australian Rainfall and Runoff Requirements.

“We would like Council to act on this issue for residents so we can ensure the safety of our properties”, Mr Setchell said.
