MORE TEACHERS DESERVE OAM

23 February 2023

Only one teacher received an OAM in the recent Australia Day Honours out of 517 deserving Australians to get recognition.

Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP is encouraging people to nominate more teachers for an OAM.

“Of the 517 deserving Australians who received recognition in last year’s honours, only one was a teacher. I know that there are many deserving teachers out there that should be recognised, that is why I am encouraging our community to nominate a teacher this year”, said Dr Reid.

“In the last four years, more than 3500 people have been awarded an OAM, 12 were classroom teachers”, Dr Reid said.

“During my schooling, I can think of many teachers that helped guide my learning and shaped the values and principles I carry now as an adult”, Dr Reid said.

“Teachers are hardworking professionals, and I am sure the community can agree that they should be recognised”, Dr Reid said.

“Teachers deserve our thanks and recognition, and I could not think of a better way than ensuring more teachers are included in the Order of Australia”, Dr Reid said.
