PENINSULA ENVIRONMENT GROUP RECEIVES FUNDING THROUGH THE QUEEN’S JUBILEE TREE PLANTING PROGRAM Main Image

The Peninsula Environment Group (PEG) has been awarded grant funding as part of the Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee program.

Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee program is a $15.1 million initiative that provided funding to community-based tree planting events and organisations to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth ll.

Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP met with members of PEG to announce the successful awarding of grant funding.

“I would like to congratulate PEG and all its members, especially Lesley Harvey, who have been able to successfully obtain funding to plant a magnificent mature fig tree on Woy Woy waterfront”. Dr Reid said.

“This tree will provide shade and habitat to local wildlife, and be a reminder of the many years of service Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth ll, has dedicated to serving the people of the Commonwealth.” Dr Reid said.

Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch MP welcomed the grant funding and congratulated all those involved with the announcement.

“It was an absolute pleasure to join PEG and Dr Gordon for this fantastic announcement,” said Ms Tesch.

“To have this fig tree planted along our beautiful waterfront only adds to the natural beauty of our local environment and the important habitation of our magnificent wildlife”

“Thank you to those who pursued this grant and for those who continue to promote the ongoing health of our local environment.”

Central Coast Council CEO, Mr David Farmer, says that this funding will bring lasting benefits to the local community.

“This funding will provide PEG the ability to purchase a tree that will have lasting benefits for the local community, it will mean families will be able to have picnics under it and kids to play around”. Mr Farmer said.

PEG member and spokesperson, Ms Lesley Harvey, spoke about what this grant funding means for the organisation and the impact it will have on Woy Woy waterfront for future generations.

“This funding is really important to the Peninsula community to add a significant shade tree in celebration of The Queen’s Jubilee. I would like to thank Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP, for his support and Central Coast Council as well as the federal Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources for arranging the grant”. Ms Havey said.

“PEG would like to use this funding to acquire a mature Port Jackson Fig Tree with a commemorative plaque that will provide shade and longevity to the people of the Peninsula”. Ms Harvey said.
