PUTTING THE HANDBRAKE ON MR CROUCH’S SCAREMONGERING AND LIES

20 July 2023

Following false claims by the State Opposition Whip and State Member for Terrigal, Mr Adam Crouch MP, Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP, says Mr Crouch is scaremongering and lying about the Federal Government suspending its $100 million commitment to upgrade Avoca Drive through Kincumber.

Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP, says Mr Crouch is clutching at the straws for relevance following his new role as a State Opposition Member of Parliament and after almost losing his seat.

“I have written to the State Opposition Whip and Member for Terrigal, Mr Adam Crouch MP, to again confirm the Federal Albanese Labor Government’s commitment to the $100 million upgrade of Avoca Drive, through Kincumber”, Dr Reid said.

“As this infrastructure project was an election commitment, it is not subject to the Federal Government’s Infrastructure Investment Program Strategic Review. Which the State Member for Terrigal has tried to link this infrastructure project to for political gameplay”.

“The review was initiated following the former federal Liberal government’s infrastructure spending mismanagement, which saw investment in hundreds of infrastructure projects that were not nationally significant and failed to deliver appropriate economic and social benefits”, Dr Reid said.

“I note that in April 2022, after the Federal Labor Party committed initial funding for the Avoca Drive upgrade, Mr Crouch released a statement claiming this project was ‘a random funding commitment’, and that this upgrade would, ‘do absolutely nothing to reduce congestion for the thousands of commuters who use this road every single day’. I have asked Mr Crouch whether he still stands by these comments and for him to support this project”.

“I would urge the State Opposition Whip and State Member for Terrigal, Mr Crouch, to stop scaremongering and lying to his community on this matter”, Dr Reid said.

“Mr Crouch’s time would be better used if he started representing his constituents on matters like the Wamberal Seawall issue, Empire Bay Boatshed issue, or the Wards Hill Road and Empire Bay Drive intersection safety issue”.

“One would think Mr Crouch would have reevaluated his priorities following the recent NSW State Election, where the State seat of Terrigal went from being a safe Liberal seat to being now a very marginal Liberal seat”, Dr Reid said.

“People on the Central Coast are tired of politicians scaremongering and lying, and I would urge the State Opposition Whip and State Member for Terrigal, to heed this sentiment”.
