REID FRUSTRATED BY CENTRAL COAST COUNCIL’S INFRASTRUCTURE APPROACH

20 June 2024

The Central Coast Council is lagging behind on delivering Commonwealth funded infrastructure commitments.

Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP, says that he has secured millions of dollars for community infrastructure projects, and he is frustrated by the slow approach that the Central Coast Council is taking.

Funding was secured to upgrade and renew local infrastructure, including the clubhouse at Frost Reserve, Kincumber, refurbishments to sporting facilities at Kariong, and local roads projects.

“I have already secured funding from the Commonwealth Government to upgrade and renew local infrastructure.

“We have now passed the two-year mark since my election in May 2022, and in the first budget that was handed down by the new Federal Labor Government, funding for my commitments were budgeted for, and this funding has been transferred to the Central Coast Council.

“Whilst some of these projects have commenced, overall, it has been a slow approach by Central Coast Council. Our community has waited long enough and Central Coast Council needs to prioritise these projects.

“This month, the Minister for Infrastructure, Catherine King, and the Minister for Local Government, Kristy McBain, both visited the region to confirm that Commonwealth funding has been delivered to Central Coast Council for these projects.

“While I appreciate Council needs to follow its processes, I know that our community, including Kincumber, Kariong and others, are frustrated at the slow-moving upgrades.

“I am calling on the Central Coast Council to pick up the pace and get a move on with these infrastructure projects.

“The Commonwealth funding is there, I’m doing my job, the Council needs to action this work now.

“I look forward to the Central Coast Council utilising this Commonwealth funding for our infrastructure projects as a matter of priority”, Dr Reid said.
