Umina Beach Public School has received $20,000 from the Federal Labor Government’s Stronger Communities Programme to construct a new outdoor BBQ kitchen and yarn up space.

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP:

“I congratulate Umina Beach Public School on receiving this grant funding from the Australian Government.

“I know that once this project is complete, it will be a tremendous outdoor BBQ and learning area for the whole community to use.

“The students I met with were very excited about the yarn up space and all the stories that will be passed on there”, Dr Reid said.

Quotes attributable to Umina Beach Public School’s P&C Vice President, Nellie Feeney.

“The Umina Beach Public School P&C is excited to have been awarded the Stronger Communities Grant to help our school create an outdoor BBQ kitchen and yarn up space.

“The project will involve the installation of a large BBQ station, ample bench space and outdoor seating and tables to provide maximum potential for school and community involvement in an inviting and inclusive space.

“The space will provide the opportunity for our students, and our wider community, to come together to participate in the preparation of food while gathering together to learn and share.

“It will be a place for our school community to create, connect and give back”, Ms Feeney said.

Quotes attributable to Aboriginal Education Resource Teacher, Julia Morgan:

“The space will be alongside our Ngayaran room (Darkinjung for “Meeting Place"), where our Aboriginal students and families are supported.

“The extension of this room with an outdoor space will enable our students to be connected to country and for families to come together with food to connect with elders and establish a feeling of belonging with each other as a mob”, Ms Morgan said.

The Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Programme provides not-for-profit organisations with grant funding of $2,500 to $25,000 for small capital projects that deliver social benefits for local communities.
