KILLCARE HEIGHTS RESIDENTS CALL FOR RETICULATED SEWER SYSTEMS

14 July 2023

There are several properties in Killcare Heights that are still without reticulated sewer systems and must rely upon costly pump out services.

These property owners are calling on Central Coast Council to provide their properties with reticulated sewer systems.

Killcare Heights property owners have been calling on Council to provide this service for up to 35 years and residents have had enough, saying they cannot wait any longer.

Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid MP, met with these Killcare Heights property owners to listen to their concerns and advocate on their behalf.

“Listening to these residents, it is clear that many are frustrated that they continue to be overlooked and forgotten”, Dr Reid said.

“It is unfair that some residents living in Killcare Heights have access to sewer systems, while others, living only down the road, do not”.

“I am joining with these residents and calling on Central Coast Council to provide information about when these properties will be connected to the sewer system”, Dr Reid said.

“I have written to Central Coast Council Administrator, Mr Rik Hart, and asked for an update on this matter”.

Killcare Heights resident, Mrs Anne Crain, who is one of the property owners without access to sewer systems, says residents are struggling to manage with the rising costs associated with pump out services.

“Because we do not have a connection to the sewer system, residents are left with no other option but to organise pump-out services”, Mrs Crain said.

“In May this year, our provider wrote and said they were increasing pump-out fees by 300%. This news has been devastating and has affected residents’ mental health and wellbeing”.

“Pump-out services can be unreliable and unhygienic; we know of residents who have organised the service and did not have it occur until after an overflow took place. This can be a highly traumatic and embarrassing experience, especially if you have family or friends staying”, Mrs Crain said.

“The big issue is we do not have any other choice other than pump out, there are other systems out there, but we have been told we cannot have sceptic seepage or enviro cycle”.

Dr Reid will continue to advocate on behalf of property owners in Killcare Heights regardless of the outcome of the representation to Central Coast Council.
